My heritage
By Christy G.
I am a 29-year-old second generation member of the Family International. I was born in Switzerland and raised in the Family International. I have been on five of the seven continents, and have had a full and happy life thus far. While my life hasn’t been perfect (whose is?), it has been blessed in countless ways. I am grateful to my parents for the heritage of faith that they gave me.
In the Family International I am surrounded by friends and co-workers who I know love me and I can count on to be there for me. I live in an atmosphere of love, trust, respect, and camaraderie, and we have a common goal—that of bringing God’s love and light to this darkening world. I have the deepest respect and admiration for each of the members of our organization, who lay down their lives daily to give to others, and to help make the world a better place. I have seen them in action, and have been part of the action, in Africa, Asia, and South America.
I won’t say much here, because I could repeat many of the statements posted on this site. I respect each of my peers who are standing up for their faith in the face of the vicious lies, distortions, and half-truths being freely thrown around. I give a hearty “amen” to each of your statements, and I’m proud to be counted with you.
Just to set the record straight: We are not scared shitless, as some of our detractors seem to think in light of our postings here. Their ranting and raving is only causing a strengthening of our conviction and a uniting of our ranks. So to them I say, “Say what you like! It’s having the opposite effect of what you’d hoped! You will not stop the truth and you can not stop God’s work!”
I know what it’s like to face personal opposition. My parents and siblings are no longer members, for various reasons, and some do not approve of or support my decision to continue as a member of the Family International. I respect their desire to choose another lifestyle, however I have made my decision.
Honestly, I do not get fazed by questions or attacks on my faith or position. Why? Because giving my life for Jesus is something that I believe is worth living and dying for. I’m not in the Family because of any personality or because of man. I’m here because I have a personal calling from God to serve Him, and I believe our movement is a great place to live out that calling, along with a wonderful team of co-workers to accomplish it with. I don’t believe I would be anywhere near as effective trying to do this on my own, and the other churches and Christian organizations I have seen thus far have not “cut the mustard” for me.
I just pray for those who oppose us so—those who can’t stop their slander, and the few who even go to the extent of wanting to bring an end to our work for the Lord—that they will wake up and realize what they will one day have to account for before God. May God help and have mercy on them!
As for me, and my house, we will serve our God, come what may.
