Joan Millins
I was a difficult child. I caused a lot of heart ache to my mom and those who cared for me. But it was their love and patience that won me, not beatings. If I had grown up anywhere else but The Family I would probable have be sent to a detention center.

What is abuse? Teaching a child right from wrong? No, I was not beaten or abused! I was encouraged to find my path in life in spite of being difficult. When others would have given up on me, my parents and caretakers gave me love and consistency, that’s why I am who I am today, a dedicated missionary who lives to help others.

Why I would still be here and choose to raise my children in this environment if I knew they would be hurt in any way, mentally or physically. Tell me, if I was abused, why would I subject my kids to the same life, would you? It makes me mad to think that you would put my life and the life of my kids in jeopardy because of what a couple people claim they have gone through. I’m sorry if they experienced such things but are you seeing both sides? Are you judging everything by what you hear? Why don’t you come see for yourself?

Have you ever worked with children? I’m a professional teacher and have taught for eight years abroad and in my home country. When you look into a child’s eyes you can tell if they’re sick, tired, hungry or sad. These are the signs you learn to recognize to ensure their happiness. Growing up in India and Eastern Europe I’ve been to orphanages and I’ve seen the effects of child labor in secular society. What you see in their eyes is a lack of hope, hurt and a longing for someone to care. I dare you to take a look into one of my children’s eyes or any child in The Family International for that matter and tell me what you see!
